LOSS OF A BEAUTIFUL FRIEND

It is nearly a year since we added any news to this page. In many ways I was personally very glad to have said goodbye to 2010 as it was a very turbulent year for me and for Daughters of Elvin. Many unwanted things happened to us that I won't put up here but the worst thing of all was the sudden death of our beautiful viol player Mike Edwards in September in a horrible freak accident. He was loved by many, many people and is very sadly missed by us and me personally. He was a wonderful musician and a truely wacky friend. He had a huge influence on the music scene in Totnes where he lived. He encouraged everybody musically and in their lives. I won't say much more as it still hurts to think about what the world has lost. Click on the picture to read a lovely obituary of Mike's extraordinary life in the Independent.

LANVAL BY MARIE DE FRANCE

Late last summer some of the members of Daughters of Elvin were invited to appear in a wonderful new film by Elizabeth Jane Baldry. It is a retelling of an Anglo Norman 12th century romance by Marie de France. Luckily Mike was involved in the project and there are some beautiful shots of him playing bass viol in the banqueting scene.

Steve and Katy also make an appearance on the sound track.

The film has already been shown in the UK and across France and is about to be premiered in the US. To find out more www.fairytalefilms.co.uk

RECORDING WITH JACKIE OATES

A few weeks ago Katy and Steve were pleased to be invited to record some bagpipes and hurdy gurdy for talented and inspiring young folk artist Jackie Oates. The album will be out later in the year to find out more www.jackieoates.co.uk
